The Atticus Chronicles

Howdy Folks! After waiting very patiently for my husband to set up a web page for my son for almost a year I figured it was high time that I took matters into my own hands. Introducing our Family Blog! I hope to get on here fairly regularly to let you all know about the adventures of our family and to post the latest pic's of Atticus. Stay tuned ...

Xmas celebrations with the Smiths

We had our Xmas BBQ catch up with the Smith family today (and it was a lovely 42 degrees too)! The boys got along really well together and I think the day was pretty much tear free. Atti scored a truck from his cousins and a book on kittens that he's been constantly presenting to me for reading ever since.

Merry Xmas!

It's official! We have to move now as we no longer have the room to accommodate all of Atti's toys!

Among other things he received a black/white board/easel, a musical chair, a doodlepro, a wiggles tent, a musical zoo, some playdough and a Boohbah DVD. He seemed to have more fun opening the presents than actually receiving them and kept handing bits of wrapping to people throughout the day. Nothing wrapped will ever be safe in this house ever again!

Other highlights include his first taste of plum pudding which he thoroughly enjoyed and playing peek-a-boo from his wiggles tent with whomever passed by. God help us next year when he understands about Santa ...

Stitches out, lunch at Jells Park & teeth finally finished

I had my stitches removed this morning and apart from some superficial brusing all is well and Justin and are are set to try for number two!

After Atti's nap we headed off to Jells Park where we caught up with Aileen, Adrian & the gorgeous Zac for a spot of lunch. Everyone managed to get burnt (apart from the babies) and a great time was had by all.

Then it was off to the dentist for me as I'd had an appointment on Tuesday and 15 minutes into it the power went out and I sat patiently and waited for it's return for almost three hours!!!

Justin, Dad and I saw Wolf Creek while Atti was at childcare today (just getting into the Christmas Spirit) and OMG what a nasty piece of work! Not recommended for those who don't like their violence extreme and their horror experience VERY uncomfortable. Great film!

Surgery

Had my surgery yesterday morning and have only just returned from the hospital. All went well and although the endometriosis cysts weren't very large, they were widespread so it's just as well I bit the bullet and had it done when I did.

I'm recovering well (in fact the HUGE bruise on my left hand where they attempted to get the I.V. into my hand before moving to my left hurts more than my tummy does)! I missed both of my boys immeasurably and am so glad to be home!

MCHN 18 Month Appointment

Atti had his 18 Month Maternal Child Health Nurse Appointment today. His results were:

Weight: 11.085gms (an increase of 185gms in the past three months). This puts Atti in the 40% percentile.
Height: 82cms
Head circumference: 49.5cms.
His fontanelle is still open just a smidge but shouldn't be far off being closed completely. Otherwise he's doing everything he should be doing and we don't have another appointment until he's 2.

Floyd had his hernia operation today and everything seems to be ok so far (the hardest bit will be convincing him that running around like a lunatic with his sister Daphne isn't in his best interests at present).

Tomorrow Atti has his chicken pox vaccination (which I'm pretty certain is his last needle for a while) and then he's off to my folks in the afternoon as they're babysitting for the night. I have to be at the hospital by 7am Wednesday morning for surgery and we figured it was much easier to leave Atti elsewhere then to wake him at 5am for breakfast!

We had a super hectic day today!

First thing this morning we took Floyd to the vets for his last vaccination only to find out that the hernia operation that he'd had about a month before hadn't worked and that he requires further surgery! He's booked in for Monday and fingers crossed that this time everything goes smoothly!

After lunch Atticus had a swimming class (he's been moved into the Intermediate class too) and he seems to have finally mastered walking on the mat! He's also a pro at blowing bubbles and kicking his feet (although not always on command).

Next we headed into the city for IBM's kids Xmas party which was held at the Aquarium where Atticus had an absolute ball. He got a showbag full of toys, a free icecream and he was absolutely amazed by the fish. We had a really hard time getting him to move from exhibit to exhibit with each new fish as amazing as the last. I swear, all he did all day was gasp and point!

On another topic completely, Atticus finally weaned himself this morning ... he's no longer a boobie man (or at least he's having a break for a decade or so) ;-) The timing was perfect as I would have had to wean him on Tuesday anyway as I'm having surgery on Wednesday so he's beat me to it by four days! I'm still a bit sad about it but it's getting easier and I'm so proud that I've been able to feed him for as long as I have.

Atti had a hair cut today (and his very first lollipop too)! He was very well behaved for his hairdressor Lauren but I think the sugar bribe may have had a little bit to do with it.

Bloody Gastro!!!

Poor little Atti was sicker than I've ever seen him before today. He couldn't even keep water down so we were confined to the couch with some hydrolite icey poles, a bucket and Elmo in Grouchland. Nurse Floyd did what he could to assist but it was pretty much just a matter of waiting it out.

By the weekend Atti was fine ... by Monday Justin had it and by Tuesday I'd got in on the act.

Starting to think that looking into another childcare centre for Atticus may not be the worst idea I've ever had.

It can't do any harm!
