The Atticus Chronicles

Howdy Folks! After waiting very patiently for my husband to set up a web page for my son for almost a year I figured it was high time that I took matters into my own hands. Introducing our Family Blog! I hope to get on here fairly regularly to let you all know about the adventures of our family and to post the latest pic's of Atticus. Stay tuned ...

A "present" from Monty

When I got out of the shower this morning I discovered Justin on the floor trying to put something in a plastic container before I could see and whisking it out the door. Usually this can mean only one thing ... a spider!

In this case however it was something much more unexpected!

"Don't look"! He called out to me. It's some kind of mutation. I think it might be a scorpion!!!

Upon closer examination I informed Justin that it was actually a yabbie (he admitted that at first he actually thought it was a cat turd ... albeit a slow moving one).

Monty is in the habit of bringing us presents to show how much he cares and this latest offering was BY FAR the most impressive. I think he'll be hard pressed to top this one.

Thank goodness he didn't decide to put it in bed with Mummy & Daddy rather than leaving it underneath the bed as he did!!!

Better late than never!

Atticus finally started walking today!

While my folks were over this afternoon Atticus finally took a couple of brave steps forward unassisted and lunged himself into my Father's lap. This game continued for a least half an hour and the triumphant smile on his face said it all. Congratulations little man, you're officially a "Toddler" . Now the fun REALLY begins ...

Luffly Ladies

Mel & Ella paid Atti and I a visit today. Ella's a huge fan of the kitties (who can blame her) and Daphne isn't one to knock back some attention so a mutual admiration club was established. Super bulk ace to have you back in town ladies!

Play Group

Atti and I joined the local play group today. It consists of a small group of ladies and is held down at the local kindergarten. It felt very promising. Atti enjoyed playing in the sand pit in particular and I think I'll be finding sand in his every crevice for weeks to come!

In other news Atticus had become well and truly addicted to his bike of late. He spends hours on it playing 'bike chasey' with me around the house ... I'm thinking this new found love of wheeled transport may have something to do with his delayed use of his feet!

Father's Day

After coffee at the pancake parlour with David, Dad, Max and Justin and an early morning session of "Red Eye" at the flicks, Atticus and Justin kicked back in the afternoon for some quality Father Son bonding time in the garden. Did I mention that while we were at the flicks Justin's parents neighbours reversed into our car?!

Conceding Defeat

Yesterday we received the news that despite our best efforts (natural therapies, steroids, chemotherapy and radiation) Monty's lymphoma has spread into his throat and possibly further.

Well ... you can't say we didn't try! We hit it with everything we had but unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be.

He's in good spirits at the moment (playing with his siblings, bringing us scrunchies and showing his belly to anyone who passes by) but the vet warns me that the cancer is very aggressive and we're probably looking at weeks rather than months.

Justin and I are grateful for the extra time that we've had with our special little fluffy man and would like to thank everyone for your kind words and support over the past couple of months. Hopefully the next couple of weeks (although hard) will offer us some special memories too. In fact, just his morning Atticus picked up his hair brush and started to brush his own hair for the first time and when I gave him a standing ovation he then proceeded to brush Monty as well!

A short time is better than no time at all ...
